7. All scripture is God-breathed

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV)

  • Instructs us on how to live
  • God’s steady, constant calling to us (MSG)
  • Imparts encouragement and inspiration
  • Enables us to live in hope (a positive imagination)
  • So we can endure all things

During the study of Romans, I’ve been convicted of wrong attitudes and beliefs and spiritual arrogance and pride. Even though I’ve studied so much in the past five years, I feel like I know less now than I did before I started. Does anyone else feel that way?

8. In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity

(Rupertus Meldenius)

Live in such mutual harmony and such full sympathy with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus (Romans 15:5 AMPC)

Spirit of unity is based on loving fellowship among believers of the gospel of Jesus Christ and flows from Him.

If we only fellowship with a few people who agree with us about everything, we have to exclude many others. To maintain complete uniformity might need control and manipulation.

Where I struggle for unity

Empty religion — having the form but denying the power. (2 Timothy 3:5)

Legalism — Legalism is an attempt to gain favor with God or to impress our fellow man by doing certain things (or avoiding other things), without regard to the condition of our hearts before God.  (Cole on Luke 11:37-54) If the rules, spoken or unspoken, exclude or look down on people because of the way they dress, wear their hair, or because they don’t mirror the culture. In other words, if you need a makeover in order to feel welcome.

Submission — Those who insist women or children submit to an abusive husband or father

Cold or lukewarm — more of a place to socialize or network for business or political purposes. I’m not against socializing or doing business with other believers. I prefer it. But I want to fellowship with people who love Jesus.

9. Glorifying God with one voice

Then, with a unanimous rush of passion, you will with one voice glorify God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 15:6 TPT)

We accomplish that goal by having one mind and one mouth – by unity in our thinking and speech. (Guzik)

1 Corinthians 12:12-27

The church is Christ’s body made up of many parts. Each person has a unique, essential function. As we function together properly, honoring each other, we bring glory to God.

Ephesians 4:1-16

God is glorified when the body of believers comes into mature oneness as we operate in our divine gifts to contribute the growth of all. (TPT)

Colossians 1:15-20

From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone. So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross. (MSG)

The description of Christ’s church as His body has no Old Testament equivalent. The church is a living organism, and as such, it has life, with its head being Christ Jesus. As head, He is Chief, Supreme, and Lord of His Church. (Andrew Wommack)
