Romans 14:19-23

13. Pursue a life that creates peace and builds up our brothers and sisters. (Voice)

We should remember our primary purpose — establish the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. The Kingdom of God isn’t about following rules and regulations. It’s about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit — building relationships, encouraging and strengthening each other. A focus on differences, and perhaps causing others to stumble, can ruin or destroy the work God is doing among us.

14. Good advice

Hold on to what you believe about these issues, but keep them between you and God. (Voice)

God is more concerned with our intent and the spiritual condition of our hearts.

Our actions should serve Christ and help other Christians grow and flourish. (HCSB Study Bible)

15. Paul sums it up.

Keep the convictions you have about these matters between yourself and God, and don’t impose them upon others. You’ll be happy when you don’t judge yourself in doing what your conscience approves. But the one who has misgivings feels miserable if he eats meat, because he doubts and doesn’t eat in faith. For anything we do that doesn’t spring from faith is, by definition, sinful. (Romans 14:22 TPT)

16. Keep my focus on building the Kingdom of God.

Avoid negativity, criticism, complaints, and judgment.

Paul’s closing comments in his letter to the Philippians come to mind.

So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. Follow the example of all that we have imparted to you and the God of peace will be with you in all things. (Philippians 4:8-9 TPT)
