6. Honor one another above ourselves. (Romans 12:10)

In Romans 12:10, Paul uses the Greek word for love that means the warmth of family affection (Pulpit Commentary)

Honor means “…desire the welfare of others more than our own. (Andrew Wommack)”

Wuest translation reads, “vying with one another in showing honor”. In other words, “Try to outdo yourselves in respect and honor of each other. (TPT)”

As Paul mentioned in Romans 12:3, pride has to go or we cannot properly love and honor others.

My challenge involves a person God has called me to serve on a very personal level. It’s challenging because the person often criticizes me behind my back and seldom expresses appreciation. The only thing that keeps me going is thinking I’m serving the Lord Himself. (Colossians 3:23)

7. Romans 12:11

Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. (MSG)

Be enthusiastic to serve the Lord, keeping your passion toward him boiling hot! Radiate with the glow of the Holy Spirit and let him fill you with excitement as you serve him. (TPT)

Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord. (AMP)

I know that I can’t quit, and I can’t change the person’s attitude toward me. I understand the person feels frustration and guilt about needing my help.

As a result of this challenge, I have drawn closer to the Father so my zeal for him has increased. I’ve gained more self-control about reacting to the comments and learned to avoid direct confrontations as much as possible.

I’m praying for a breakthrough in this person’s life.

8.  Rejoice in hope ~ That’s a tough one.

Maybe it’s just me, but I wish this question asked which one of Paul’s commands is the easiest.

To be honest, I don’t rejoice in hope about the things God has called me to do. All of them are challenging, time-consuming, exhausting, and prevent me from seeking paid work.
