Romans 12:2; Galatians 1:3-5; Ephesians 2:1-2

10. World: A secular life.

“A secular life. By the world, we sometimes understand the things of this world its pleasures and interests. A great part of mankind are more anxious to enjoy the world to than secure divine favor.” (Webster’s Dictionary 1826)

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. (Romans 12:2 AMPC)

11. The world’s ways

  • lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification]
  • lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind]
  • pride of life [assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things] (1 John 2:15-17 AMPC)

Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity. (1 John 2:15-17 MSG)

12. The things of earth grow strangely dim.

Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. (Hebrew 12:2 AMPC)

We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection. (Hebrews 12:2 TPT)
