If anyone is united with the Anointed One, that person is a new creation. The old life is gone—and see—a new life has begun! (2 Corinthians 5:17 Voice)

6. “We were buried with Him through this baptism into death” Romans 6:4 Voice

Paul means “We” who believe in Jesus Christ and accept His sacrifice as payment for our sin.

Ephesians 2:1 and Colossians 2:13 say we were dead IN trespasses and sins. But through Christ, we have become dead TO sin, as this verse says. What a swap!” (Andrew Wommack)

I shared in His death through baptism. I was co-buried and entombed with Him so that when the Father’s glory raised Christ from the dead, I was also raised with Him. I have been co-resurrected with Him so that I could be empowered to walk in the freshness of new life. (Paraphrase of Passion Translation)

7. The idea behind the ancient Greek word for baptized is “to immerse or overwhelm something.” (Guzik)

Paul was speaking of the act where all of us who put saving faith in Jesus as our Lord are automatically and instantaneously baptized into Jesus and all that He purchased for us (1 Corinthians 12:13 and Colossians 2:12). (Andrew Wommack’s Living Commentary.)

Symbolized by baptism (use this link then scroll to see all the references for these answers)—

Just as John ritually cleansed people with water through baptism, we are washed with the Holy Spirit. (See Acts 1:5 Voice translation) This verse says being baptized in the Holy Spirit replaces John’s baptism.
The Greek word translated “repent” means both “to change the mind and direction of your life” and “to turn back to God.” (footnote on Acts 2:38 TPT) Peter’s words sound more like John the Baptist here.
We become one body. (I believe Paul here refers to baptism in the Holy Spirit and not water baptism.) “For by one Spirit, we all were immersed and mingled into one single body.” (1 Corinthians 12:13 TPT)
. . .baptized into Christ [into a spiritual union and communion with Christ, the Anointed One, the Messiah] have put on (clothed yourselves with) Christ. (Galatians 3:26-27 AMPC)
Spiritually circumcised you were buried with Him in [your] baptism. (Colossians 2:11-12 AMPC)

8. We have become dead to sin.

(Paul) was simply stating that as believers, we have become dead to sin (Romans 6:6) through the death of Jesus. Jesus didn’t die for His sins; He had none. He died for our sins (1 Peter 2:24). Therefore, His death was for us, and all the benefits to be obtained through His death and resurrection are our benefits. (Andrew Wommack)

I accepted God’s free gift. Jesus paid my debt in full. Instead of a slave to sin, I’m immersed in Jesus. We are inseparably merged into one. What a glorious mystery!
“My true life is the Anointed One, and dying means gaining more of Him.” (Philippians 1:21 TPT)
I am a new creation (a new creature altogether); My old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17 AMPC)
