Revelation Lesson 9 Day 3 Door

Revelation 4:1-8

5.  What John saw and heard—

John saw a door into heaven standing open.

  • He heard a trumpet-voice like the first voice. (Revelation 1:10)
  • He saw hues of amber and flame with an emerald nimbus surrounding the throne.
  • He saw twenty-four thrones in a circle around God’s Throne, with Elders wearing white robes and gold crowns sitting in them.
  • He saw lightning flashes and heard crashes of thunder pulsing from the Throne.
  • He saw seven fire-blazing torches in front of the Throne.
  • In front of the Throne, he saw what looked like a clear crystal sea.
  • Around the Throne, he saw four animals, all eyes. Eyes to look ahead, eyes to look behind. Each one had six wings. They were all eyes, seeing around and within.
    • The first animal was like a lion.
    • The second animal was like an ox.
    • The third animal had a human face.
    • The fourth like an eagle in flight.
  • He heard them saying,

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!”

God is—

  • holy.
  • eternal.
  • omnipotent, the Ruler of all.
  • unchanging.
  • worthy to receive glory and honor and power.

6.  Other visions of God and heaven in Scripture—

Exodus 24:9-11

  • Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel saw the God of Israel.
  • Under his feet there seemed to be a surface of brilliant blue lapis lazuli, as clear as the sky itself.

Isaiah 6:1-7

  • Isaiah saw the Lord.
  • He was sitting on a lofty throne.
  • The train of His robe filled the Temple.
  • Attending Him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings.
  • He heard them saying,

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies!

The whole earth is filled with his glory!”

Ezekial 1

  • The sky opened up.
  • Ezekial saw visions of God.
  • He an immense cloud with lightning flashing from it.
  • He saw a huge ball of fire glowing like bronze.
  • There was something that looked like a throne.
  • Sky-blue like a sapphire, with a human-like figure towering above the throne.
  • From the waist up he looked like burnished bronze. (Similar to amber color)
  • From the waist down, like a blazing fire.
  • Brightness surrounded him like a rainbow—the glory and brilliance of the Lord.
  • Within the fire were what looked like four creatures vibrant with life.
    • Each had the form of a human being, but each also had—
      • The face of a human,
      • the face of a lion,
      • the face of an ox,
      • and the face of an eagle.
    • The creatures flashed back and forth like strikes of lightning.

7.  a.  The Trinity in Revelation 4:1-8

Jesus is the door. Jesus’ trumpet-voice invites John to “come up here” through the open door.

Father God is on His Throne. John saw His brilliant glory.

Son—The voice of Jesus called John to “Come up here.”

Spirit—John saw the Seven Spirits of God which looked like seven torches.

b.  God = Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

The Father

  • Sent the Holy Spirit
  • Gave us the Holy Spirit to live in us
  • Knows our hearts
  • Has a plan for us
  • Creator of all things
  • Holy, Omnipotent, Eternal
  • Worthy to receive glory and honor and power

The Son

  • Our righteousness
  • Left earth so God would send the Holy Spirit
  • All that belongs to the Father is His.

The Holy Spirit

  • Helper
  • Teaches us all things
  • Reminds us of all Jesus has said to us.
  • Our advocate
  • Convicts the world of sin.
  • The Spirit of truth
  • Guides us into all truth
  • Convicts the world of sin and of God’s righteousness
  • Tells us about the future
  • Tells us what the Father says
  • Knows God’s plans
  • Prays and pleads to the Father on our behalf
  • Brings glory to God

John 14:26 Jesus said,

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my (Jesus’) name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I (Jesus) have said to you.

John 16:7-15 Jesus said,

But in fact, it is best for you that I (Jesus) go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me.10 Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.11 Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.

12 “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’

Romans 8:26-27

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

1 Corinthians 6:19

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,

Ephesians 1:13

And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.
