Revelation Lesson 6 Day 3

Revelation Lesson 6 Day 3

Philadelphia Continued

Revelation 3:11-13

7. A. Revelation 3:11

Keep on holding onto the Word of God and the Name of God just as you have been doing.

B. Crowns

Some believe crowns symbolize a special honor, privilege, or blessing awarded to recognize an achievement.

I believe the crowns are real and beautiful, studded with precious jewels, a suitable gift for a King. Whatever they look like, some if not all will be placed before God’s throne. Revelation 4:10

“Everyone who participates in the athletic games exercises constant self-control in all things, those, to be sure, in order that they may receive a perishable victor’s garland of wild olive leaves to be worn as a crown of victory, but as for us [we engage in Christian service, exercising constant self-control to obtain] a victor’s garland which is imperishable.” Wuest translation 1 Corinthians 9:25 (emphasis added)

In Paul’s final letter, he tells Timothy I’ve “run hard right to the finish, believed all the way. (MSG)” “And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of His return. (NLT)” 2 Timothy 4:8 (emphasis added)

“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12 NLT (emphasis added)

Those who remain faithful even when facing death will receive the crown of life. Revelation 2:10  (emphasis added)

8. Rewards for the victorious

An eternal crown of victory for denying the flesh (in preparation) and to contend and persevere against an adversary until the finish line.

Crown of righteousness—In my opinion, this crown doesn’t apply to the list of rewards specifically for the victorious. All who believe and receive Jesus’ forgiveness and righteousness in this life have a crown of righteousness waiting for them. Paul didn’t earn that crown. He goes on to say in verse 9, “and not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:9 NLT

We receive His righteousness through grace. Jesus provided grace through overcoming death. “But if it is by grace [God’s unmerited favor], it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace [it would not be a gift but a reward for works].” Romans 11:6 AMP

Crown of life — The Crown of Life is the reward for perseverance — going through hard times in faith. It means we kept our eyes on Jesus. This isn’t the same as eternal life. Eternal life is a free gift that comes with receiving Jesus as our sacrifice.

All who are victorious will become pillars in the sanctuary of my God, a permanent position of honor.

I will write God’s name on you, the pillars: the Name of God’s City — the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven — and my new Name. MSG

9. Jesus’ example and His promises encourage me.

“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” Hebrew 12:2 AMP

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect (works best NLT) in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:8 ESV

I can rely on His strength. I don’t have to depend on my own. When I am weak, His power works best!

  • Jesus is the Holy One and the True One.
  • The one who has the key of David.
  • What He opens, no one can close.
  • And what He closes, no one can open.
  • He opens doors for us that no one can close.
  • He will force those who belong to Satan’s synagogue to bow down at our feet.
  • They will admit we are the ones He loves.
  • He will protect us from the major time of testing.
