Revelation Lesson 28 Day 2 Heaven

Revelation Lesson 28 Day 2

3.  What I imagine heaven is like—

(Warning: I have a vivid imagination. ;-)

new heaven and a new earth or regenerated?

Some scholars believe new means transformed or renewed in some way.

For example, when believers experience the new birth, our outer appearance didn’t change. The change happened inside.

God didn’t originally prepare a temporary home for Adam and Eve. He planned for them to live here forever.

The curse changed some aspects of earth. Perhaps God will simply remove the curse.

So where will we live for eternity? The word heaven means “perhaps from the same as <G3735> (oros) (through the idea of elevation); the sky; by extension heaven (as the abode of God); by implication happiness, power, eternity; specially the Gospel (Christianity) :- air, heaven ([-ly]), sky. Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary

Since the Garden of Eden (Eden means pleasure), the place He prepared for us will be filled with pleasures.

It will be a place of beautiful scenery, perfect weather and perfect temperature. Adam and Eve didn’t sew fig leaves together because they were cold or to protect their skin from the sun. Some say it never even rained until the flood. (Or perhaps we won’t sense temperature.)

Perhaps it will be a sphere, like a planet. The New Jerusalem City is open for us to come and go or stay. Or perhaps the New Jerusalem will be on the un-cursed Earth.

It’s a place where all the gifts and interests He deposited in us at creation can be fulfilled to our heart’s desire. Those who struggled on earth to discover their gifts or were discouraged or hindered in this life will be free for eternity.

Our dwellings (the Greek word translated as mansion in the KJV actually means rooms or dwellings) will be specifically designed for each person according his or her taste. There will be no roofs so we see the sky and God’s light all the time.

Food will appear when we want it. Those who love to prepare food can do that for others to enjoy. The food won’t make us sick or fat.

Everything is alive. Scientists have discovered that everything on earth has energy and generates sound. I believe in heaven, we will be able to see and hear those sights and sounds. In fact, I believe they will interact with us. The trees of the field will literally clap their hands. The mountains and hills will audibly sing out along with us.

Animals: There will be all kinds of animals like we had on earth and more. Even dinosaurs. And they will communicate with us.

None of them will be dangerous because all the curses will be no more. God loved everything He created. I can’t imagine He will withhold anything.

“You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands!” Is 55:12 NLT

Scenery: Heaven will have areas with every type of beautiful terrain, vegetation, geological formations, and things we can’t even imagine. For eternity we will explore to our hearts’ desire.

Appearance: We will all look young, healthy and at their best. Forever! No wrinkles, scars, or blemishes, but we will still recognize each other. None of our physical attributes now considered weird or unattractive will seem that way in heaven. The diversity will excite us to no end.

The same goes for the way we view others in general. We won’t be cliquish, petty, judgmental, sectarian, gossipy, or any other way that causes division.  We will all love and absolutely delight in each other.

Sounds: The sound of all periods and styles of musical instruments and vocals blend seamlessly with textures, notes and ranges beyond earthly limitations.

Transport: We will move around by walking, running, leaping, floating, dancing, flying, and translating (transferring to another place like Phillip and Jesus did). Perhaps we can travel all over the universe escorted by angels?

What most people think heaven looks like—

A sparkly place that sits on the clouds

Walls that aren’t solid but have a metal fence with pickets

Saints have wings and a halo and sit on a cloud

Very little color – mostly silver and white

Harp music or at best, elevator music

Obviously, that’s inaccurate. We lack the ability to show all the colors, the creativity  and the beauty of heaven. We also don’t know exactly how it looks.

4. What these verses say about heaven

John 14:1-4

Jesus said He is preparing a place for us with more than enough room in my Father’s home. (Isn’t that the entire universe?) When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.  And you know the way to where I am going.”

The word rendered mansions means either the act of dwelling in any place (John 14:23), “we will make our abode with him”), or it means the place where one dwells. It is taken from the verb to remain, and signifies the place where one dwells or remains. It is applied by the Greek writers to the tents or temporary habitations which soldiers pitch in their marches. It denotes a dwelling of less permanency than the word house. It is commonly understood as affirming that in heaven there is ample room to receive all who will come; that therefore the disciples might be sure that they would not be excluded. Barnes Notes on the New Testament

1 Corinthians 13:12 AMP

For now [in this time of imperfection] we see in a mirror dimly [a blurred reflection, a riddle, an enigma], but then [when the time of perfection comes we will see reality] face to face. Now I know in part [just in fragments], but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known [by God].

In our glorified bodies, we will see God and not only some aspect of His radiant glory.

Our understanding and perception will be less limited. I’m so excited about that!

Revelation 21:1-5

The new (or renewed) City of Jerusalem with beautiful walls and gates. Nothing impure will enter there. Unlike the former Jerusalem, there is no stand-alone temple because the entire city is a temple.
The city is filled with trees, streams, fountains and fruit. The sea gave up its dead and ceased to exist. It was a type of perpetual unrest both physically and politically. Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary
