These are my Answers to BSF Bible Study questions for People of the Promised Land Lesson 18 Day 3

2 Samuel 7:8-17; 1 Chronicles 17:7-15; Psalm 89:35-37

6. God’s covenant promise to David.

  • Your name will be famous and highly respected.
  • I will provide a permanent place for my people Israel.
  • He will give his people peace from all their violent enemies.
  • God said he would raise up a descendant of David whose kingdom would be strong.
  • He would build a temple to honor God’s name.
  • His kingdom will be secure forever.

In the physical realm, David’s son Solomon fulfilled many of these promises up to a point. He built a temple and the kingdom enjoyed many years of peace and extravagant prosperity. (1 Kings 4:20-34)

Jesus, the Messiah, God’s son who descended from David, completely fulfills this promise in every way.

The kingdom of God is truly just and righteous.

His kingdom is eternal.

All believers, individually and together, make up his eternal temple.

Isaiah 9:6-7; Matthew 1:1-16

7. Encouragement

God didn’t scrap his plans for David’s destiny when he failed.

Because of God’s covenant with David, the Messiah bore his DNA.

All nations are blessed through David.

8. My destiny

Thirty years ago, I wrote an essay called The Hand of God in My Life. I so need to revisit and refocus on God’s goodness and faithfulness. After such a difficult season with three deaths in the family, I’m struggling to remember God’s promises.

I must remember to encourage myself in the Lord.

And David was greatly distressed … But David encouraged himself in the Lord. (1 Samuel 30:6 KJV)
