John Lesson 28 Day 5

John 21:24-25

The conclusion~John testifies of Jesus

12. John 21:24

Jesus’ disciple named John was an eyewitness to the life, death, and ministry of Jesus Christ. John (and his brother James) were also Jesus’ cousins, the sons of Zebedee and Salome, who was Jesus’ mother Mary’s sister. This gospel is the most read account of Jesus. New believers are often instructed to read John’s book first.

John writes so that those who do not believe will begin to believe and those who already believe will continue to believe.

  • Jesus is the ONLY path to the Father.
  • He is Truth personified.
  • In Him—and ONLY in Him—is life.
  • He is the Christ, the Messiah, the anointed, divine Son of God sent by God to provide access to the Himself—”the fulfillment of Jewish expectation and much more—the personal presence of God himself in our midst.” (IVP NEW TESTAMENT COMMENTARIES)
  • Jesus defeated Satan’s plan which brought death, and resurrected.

13. John 21:25

“Jesus provided far more God-revealing signs than are written down in this book. These are written down so you will believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and in the act of believing, have real and eternal life in the way he personally revealed it.” (John 20:30-31 MSG)

John’s gospel is quite different from the other three accounts of Jesus.

It is about 90% different in fact.  There is only about 10% of John that refers back to any of the material in the synoptic gospels.

“John is intimately written and reading it gives us the sense of sitting at the feet of the old saint as he recalls stories that he actually participated in, stories that had shaped his life and had grown sweet with age, told by a great man who had experienced great things.” (Brian Hardin)

Now I understand why John’s gospel is recommended reading for new believers. He establishes that Jesus is the Son of God, sent by God, overcame death, and became the high priest for all who believe. I already believed, but there is so much more.

Jesus is real and he is alive!
