John Lesson 21 Day 4

John 16:12-15

8. Holy Spirit will help believers.

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would later help make sense out of what is about to happen. During his time on earth, he fulfilled many scriptures, but the disciples didn’t realize it until after Jesus ascended.

The Holy Spirit will also show us things to come. “If we listen and receive this ministry of the Holy Spirit, it will change our lives. We can avoid many problems and take advantage of opportunities that we might otherwise miss.” (Andrew Wommack)

Jesus promises that Holy Spirit will help believers in the following ways:

  • Guide us into all the truth.
  • He will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak.
  • Declare to us the things that are to come.
  • Glorify Me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you, because all that the Father has is mine [Jesus’].

What an amazing promise that we, as individuals, have a whole new way of relating to God by receiving the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

9. Unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

“All that the Father has is mine. . .” “If Christ had not been equal to God, could he have said this without blasphemy?” (Adam Clarke)

In John 16:14, Jesus is saying that Holy Spirit will reveal to us the things of God. So, “in this verse [John 16:15], He revealed that receiving of Jesus and receiving of God are the same thing because everything that is true of the Father is true of the Son. This is a strong witness of the divinity of Jesus.” (Andrew Wommack)

10. Holy Spirit helps us study God’s word.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV

Scripture is the Word of God because it was written down under the inspiration of Holy Spirit.

The Spirit has unlimited access to Jesus and to all that Jesus possesses and knows, just as everything the Father has is his.

For that reason, Jesus is confident that Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, will take good care of his own by revealing to us the truth—everything he, Jesus, gives him to share with us.
