John Lesson 10 Day 2
Because Jesus said, “I am the bread that comes down from heaven,” some Jews began to complain . . .
3. “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph?”
John the Baptiser was the son of Zechariah, a priest who served at the Temple. (Luke 1)
Jesus is the Son of God, but it was supposed that he was [only] the son of Joseph the carpenter. (Luke 1:26-38)
“44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.”
“Draws [translated from the Greek] . . . is used of towing a ship, dragging a cart, or pulling on a rope to set sails. But it is also used, John 12:32, of a gentle but powerful moral attraction.” (Dods) EnduringWord
45 “It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught of God [have Him in person for their Teacher].*'” John 6:45 AMPC *Quote from Isaiah 54:13
Jesus laid out for them the scriptures where Moses and all the Prophets prophesied about himself.
“Then beginning with Moses and [throughout] all the Prophets, He went on explaining and interpreting to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning and referring to Himself.” AMPC
The scriptures bear witness about Jesus, but even though they search the scriptures they refuse to believe or come to him, Jesus, for life.
“ You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.” ESV
Moses himself, who they revere so much, will accuse them.
“Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?” ESV
Jesus words are spirit and life. The Spirit of God gives them life and conveys truth to the human spirit.
“ It is the Spirit Who gives life [He is the Life-giver]; the flesh conveys no benefit whatever [there is no profit in it]. The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life.” AMPC
4. Jesus is the only way to salvation.
“Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6 AMP
“by this new and living way which He initiated and opened for us through the veil [as in the Holy of Holies], that is, through His flesh,” Hebrews 10:20 AMP
“So, friends, we can now—without hesitation—walk right up to God, into “the Holy Place.” Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The “curtain” into God’s presence is his body.” Hebrews 10:20-21 MSG
“Christ brought us together through his death on the cross. The Cross got us to embrace, and that was the end of the hostility. Christ came and preached peace to you outsiders and peace to us insiders. He treated us as equals, and so made us equals. Through him we both share the same Spirit and have equal access to the Father.” Ephesians 2:16-18 MSG
Many religions acknowledge Jesus as a prophet or a holy man. Some of the Jews called Him a rabbi or one of the prophets.
There will be a day of judgment for everyone. Only the sinless Son of God could take away our sin and give us righteousness. That’s why He is the only way to the Father and eternal life.
Other religions teach some version of works. None has a Savior. Jesus’ fulfillment of 356 prophecies and many signs and wonders attest that He is the Son of God as He said.
5. God’s promise to those who believe
Everyone who does come to Jesus drawn by the Father will receive eternal life and will be raised up from the dead at the last day and they will be taught by God.
