Genesis Lesson 9 Day 2

Genesis Lesson 9 day 2,Genesis Lesson 9 Day 3,Genesis Lesson 9 Day 4,Genesis Lesson 9 Day 5

Genesis 13:1-13

Abram and Lot part ways

3. The area couldn’t support the Abram and Lot’s estates.

They returned from Egypt with such great wealth; it created conflict.

—Large flocks and herds

—Fields to graze their animals

—Room to set up tents

—Storage areas for their possessions

—Arguments broke out between Abram and Lot’s hired workers.

4. Abram walked by faith and Lot walked by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Abram displayed humility and generosity.

Even though Abram was older, wealthier, and God gave the land to him, he offered Lot first choice.

Lot’s heart yearned for material wealth, prestige, and power. (He became the chief magistrate of Sodom. (Genesis 19:1) He readily accepted Abram’s offer and chose the beautiful, fertile, well-watered, prime piece of real estate and “turned his back on the promised land”3.

He should have honored his uncle and stayed away from the wicked city of Sodom.

In the end, he who sought this world lost it, and he who was willing to give up anything for the honour of God found it. (Maclaren)

5. Direction from God’s Word

Romans 14:19-21

Do my best to get along with others.
Encourage others.
Avoid behavior that might cause someone to stumble.

1 Corinthians 6:1-7

Seek to mediate the dispute without suing.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23

Try to see things from their point of view.
Be willing to serve others, looking for common ground in order to save some.

Ephesians 4:1-3

Live a life worthy of our calling.
Be completely humble and gentle.
Patiently bear with one another in love.
Make every effort to remain united in the Spirit through the bond of peace.

6. Personal thoughts about pursuing peace

—With some people, especially upset ones, keep silent. (That’s a hard one.)

—God doesn’t expect me to be a people-pleaser or a doormat, although that’s still my default.

—Sometimes Psalm 120:7 applies and all I can do is pray and give it to God.

I wish I could say, I consistently do the right thing.
