Matthew Lesson 29 Day 5

Matthew 28:16-20

12. Jesus words

a. Claim

All authority.

b. Command

Go and make disciples of all nations.

Teach them all that I have commanded you.

Baptize them.

c. Promise

I will always be with you.

13. Authority

a. Meaning

Authority means the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience. Has the right to delegate authority.

Synonyms: power, jurisdiction, command, control, charge, dominance, rule, sovereignty, supremacy.

b. Teach them. Baptize them.

Baptize them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Teach them everything Jesus taught.

c. All authority

God gave Jesus ALL authority.

Since he promised to be with us always, I don’t have to do anything on my own or in my own strength.

Jesus earlier gave His disciples authority to do the same miracles He did. Later He authorized and sent out seventy-two.

Here He is authorizing them and us to go to all nations—not just specific places in Israel—and make disciples (duplicating themselves) and confer that authority to others.

Practical ways Christ’s resurrection can change my daily life—

“God loves us much more now than He did before our salvation. And before our salvation, He loved us so much that He died for us. He loves us even more now.” Andrew Wommack’s Living Commentary. Romans 5:10

“For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory.” (2 Corinthians 4:10-18)

If Paul could call his life experience a “momentary light affliction,” then by comparison, my life experience is peaceful and luxurious.

I get to “know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself. If there was any way to get in on the resurrection from the dead, I wanted to do it.” Philippians 3:10 The Message

My new life (in Christ) is now my real life. My real life is invisible to spectators. I can be content with obscurity because the real me can see things from God’s perspective! Colossians 3:1-4 The Message

What happened while I studied Matthew

My heart burned within me as the Holy Spirit opened up the scriptures. (Luke 24:32)
