Acts 12:18-25

Herod dies and the word of God grows and multiplies.

10. Herod’s appointed end

When the prison guards woke up, they panicked because Peter again disappeared from his chains in prison. Just as they suspected, Herod had all of them put to death.

As The Message says, “Fed up with Judea and Jews, he went for a vacation to Caesarea.” (vs 19) His problems didn’t end there because he got angry with the people from Tyre and Sidon. The people needed to make peace with him so he would restore their food supply.

On the day they planned to meet with Herod, he arrived dressed-to-impress in royal splendor, sat on the throne and gave a pompous speech. Afterward, the people shouted excessive praise saying, “These are the words of a god, not a man!” (vs 22 TPT)

Herod didn’t immediately stop them and give God the glory so God instructed an angel to strike him. Herod suffered several agonizing days being eaten by worms until he died.

Here is an excerpt from Josephus the Jewish historian:

“He put on a garment made wholly of silver, and of a contexture truly wonderful, and came into the theatre early in the morning; at which time the silver of his garment, being illuminated by the fresh reflection of the sun’s rays upon it, shone out after a surprising manner, and was so resplendent as to spread a horror over those that looked intently upon him; and presently his flatterers cried out, one from one place, and another from another (though not for his good), that he was a god…A severe pain also arose in his belly, and began in a most violent manner… when he had been quite worn out by the pain in his belly for five days, he departed this life.” (Antiquities, XIX.8.2)

11. “My Spirit will not strive with man forever—

… because he also is flesh; so his days will be one hundred twenty years.” (Genesis 6:3)

Herod hesitated because he enjoyed the praise of man, and the people would do anything to insure provision.

12. Word of God

The Word of God is flourishing in a university in our area. Graduates go into the community as Christian lawyers, politicians, teachers, and business leaders. They are making a difference.

God is asking me to “Share The Word, Share The Word, Share The Word.”

Day 6

13. “Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,

…and that every imagination of the thoughts of man’s heart was continually only evil. ” Genesis 6:5

It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed,
because his compassion doesn’t fail.
They are new every morning.
Great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

God sees the wickedness of man and is more merciful with man than we are with each other.

Persecution in North Korea, several areas in the Middle East and others rages on. The church continues to grow in those areas just as it did in the book of Acts.

God loves even his enemies, but eventually he deals with them if they do not repent and turn from their ways.
