Acts 4:1-22

Peter and John Arrested by the Temple Police Force

10. Peter’s message

This formerly crippled man walks, leaps, and praises God because of the resurrection power in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Peter “taught the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.” (Acts 4:2 WEB)

In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands here before you whole in him. (Acts 4:10 WEB)

The Sadducees must have been especially upset because they do not believe in an afterlife or the resurrection of the dead.

Why it matters

“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!” (Acts 4:12 WEB)

Jesus’ resurrection is central to the gospel message.

The Jewish leaders rejected Jesus as worthless and thought they took care of the problem. Now, His followers worked a notable and undeniable miracle in Jesus’ name right in front of their eyes.

11. a. Fruit of Peter and John’s message

Everyone (aside from the religious leaders) glorified God for the undeniable miraculous healing of a crippled-from-birth forty-year-old man.

b. Personal application

Don’t allow the pressure of popular opinion or direct threats cause me to stop sharing the things I have experienced and know to be true.
