3. a. The Importance of Christ’s Resurrection
Christ died an excruciating and humiliating death for our sins, and it happened just the way the prophets said it would.
They buried him in a tomb (proof that he died), and he walked out of the grave three days later, according to prophecy.
He appeared to Mary Magdelin in the garden, Cephas (Peter) and to the twelve. Then he appeared to James, and to all the apostles.
Later, he appeared to over 500 of his followers at the same time, then to Jesus’ half brother, James/Jacob. (Greek and Hebrew have the name Jacob, but English translations use the name James. [footnote in TPT])
b. Some consider verses 3-5 an early apostles’ creed.
- Christ’s death
- The fulfillment of prophecies
- Christ’s burial
- Christ’s resurrection
- Christ’s supernatural appearance to over 515 of his followers
The resurrection of Jesus sets Christianity completely apart from every other religion of the world. The founders of every other religion have died and are still buried, but Jesus is alive from the dead. His tomb is empty. There have been countless religious leaders who claimed to show the way to God, but where’s their proof that they were right? Jesus provided us with the ultimate verification of His authority: He arose from the dead.
Forgiveness of sins is not obtained by a doctrine but by Christ Himself (Matthew 9:2, 6; and Acts 5:31) (AWLC)
If Jesus didn’t die and rise from the dead, he can’t save us.
4. Presenting Jesus’ story
Sharing the message without the fruit of grace profits nothing.
5. Answering questions and presenting the truth
For Jews, give them the book called “They Thought for Themselves” (affiliate link) which includes interviews with ten Jews who came to believe that Jesus is the Messiah. I need to reread it.
Face to face, I must rely on the Holy Spirit to give me the words to say. A memorized presentation doesn’t work for me. I find it easier to offer prayer and pray right then if they allow me.
