Questions for Acts and Letters of the Apostles Lesson 19

Paul offers encouragement for believers in the last days.

8. a. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

God chose me from the beginning.

Jesus’ sacrifice provides salvation.

Holy Spirit makes me holy [set apart] through His work of sanctification.

My part

I answered the call when I heard the Good News and believed in the truth.

Now, I must stand firm and hold on.

And be faithful to the truth I’ve read and heard.

b. Beloved by the Lord

Paul called them “beloved by the Lord.”

God chose them, and us, from the beginning before we chose Him.

We received the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ when we believed.

[Jesus prayed] I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. (John 17:22-23 NLT)

God loves us, comforts us and gives us unfailing hope by his grace.

9. Stand firm—don’t be easily shaken or thrown off course

It’s important to stand firm and hold on to the truth because of the lawless man Paul mentioned earlier in this chapter. He will have the power to deceive.

We also stand firm so trials, persecutions, busyness, distractions, and other things in this world don’t sidetrack us or cause us to fall away.

10. Personal application

Thank you, Lord, that you are always with me and leading me into the truth.

I need you. I’m grateful for your Word and for the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of Yahweh. (Isaiah 11:2-3)

May I be like a tree “replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers—Never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season.” (Jeremiah 17:8 MSG)

Your way is perfect. Your word is tested and tried. You are a shield to all who take refuge in you. (Psalm 18:30 paraphrased)
