Hebrews 3

Questions for Acts and Letters of the Apostles Lesson 13

Jesus Is Greater Than Moses

9. Jesus and Moses were faithful to the Father.

God appointed Jesus and Moses as his messengers, the Old Testament equivalent of an apostle. (v. 1-2)

Jesus is an Apostle and High Priest to us.

Jesus deserves more glory than Moses. Moses faithfully served God’s house and spoke of things to come. Jesus is faithful as a Son in charge of God’s house. (v. 3-6)

Jesus created Moses, prepared him, and appointed him.

10. Keep our hearts from becoming evil.

Don’t be stubborn, harden our hearts or rebel. (v. 15)

Instead, determine to have sensitive and listening hearts.

Believe and obey.

Sin and other subtle distractions harden our hearts. (v. 13)

V. 15 quotes Psalm 95:7-8 and v. 16-19 refer to the rest of the passage.

For he is our God.
We are the people he watches over,
the flock under his care.

If only you would listen to his voice today!
The Lord says, “Don’t harden your hearts as Israel did at Meribah,
as they did at Massah in the wilderness.
For there your ancestors tested and tried my patience,
even though they saw everything I did.
For forty years I was angry with them, and I said,
‘They are a people whose hearts turn away from me.
They refuse to do what I tell them.’
So in my anger I took an oath:
‘They will never enter my place of rest.’”

11. Christian community and seeking God.

Warn (admonish, urge, and encourage) one another every day . . . (v. 13 AMPC)

Today, few believers have meaningful daily fellowship unless it occurs in our homes.

Consistent, intimate time of seeking God through prayer and study certainly helps, but it is not a guarantee.

“So beware if you think it could never happen to you, lest your pride becomes your downfall.” (1 Corinthians 10:12 TPT)
